We extend our heartfelt gratitude to TB Vets Charitable Foundation for their generous support in strengthening respiratory care for adults and seniors at CareLife Fleetwood, located in the heart of Surrey.
Since its opening in 2008, this facility has provided 191 long-term care beds and focuses on creating a supportive environment where residents feel connected, comfortable, confident, and cared for every day. This is the only long-term care facility in the Fraser Health region equipped to support residents who require ventilator care.
Through a generous $30,000 donation from TB Vets, the Masimo Root Patient SafetyNet system has now been fully installed across 34 long-term care beds, including 27 dedicated to patients requiring specialized mechanical ventilation and complex respiratory care.
Through continuous monitoring, they are reducing the risk of medical emergencies and ensuring patients and their families receive safer, more responsive care.
Advanced Respiratory Monitoring at CareLife Fleetwood
With the Masimo system in place, residents living with chronic respiratory disease or breathing difficulties are now continuously monitored for oxygen levels, heart rate, circulation, and breathing patterns.
This vital information is displayed on a central monitor, ensuring that our care teams have constant visibility of each resident’s condition. Built-in early alerts within the nurse call system immediately signal changes, allowing staff to respond without delay
The system tracks residents’ vital signs around the clock. Overnight monitoring has revealed important changes, including significantly lower heart rates in some residents. This has enabled clinicians to adjust care plans with greater precision, ensuring timely intervention when early signs of concern arise.
Supporting Families of Long-Term Care Residents in Surrey
Continuous monitoring is making a meaningful difference not only for the residents but also for their families.
Some families worried that sudden changes might go unnoticed. When it comes to Chronic Respiratory diseases, every second matters. Today, because of their support, families are at ease knowing that any change will prompt immediate attention.
For families like Krista’s, it makes all the difference.
“This monitor has been life-changing for my husband. It gives me peace of mind knowing that if his oxygen levels drop, nurses are alerted right away and can respond much faster. Being able to see what’s happening at any moment has brought us so much comfort and made an incredible difference in both of our lives.” – Krista
