On January 29, Ministers and MLAs toured Surrey Memorial Hospital and the future New Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre to see how current services and major health infrastructure projects are supporting care across the South Fraser region.
Surrey Memorial Hospital Tour
At Surrey Memorial Hospital, the visit focused on clinical areas supporting urgent, high-acuity care in one of B.C.’s fastest-growing cities. Ministers toured the Critical Care Tower, Interventional Unit, Medical Imaging, and the renal facility, including recently opened cardiac catheterization labs and interventional radiology suites that are expanding access to life-saving procedures closer to home.
As patient volumes continue to rise alongside Surrey’s growing population, the tour provided an important opportunity to share how teams are delivering care today, where recent investments are making a difference, and where pressures remain as demand continues to grow across the South Fraser region.
Notable attendees at Surrey Memorial Hospital included Hon. Josie Osborne, Minister of Health; Hon. Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction; Hon. Randene Neill, Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship; and Hon. Jodie Wickens, Minister of Children and Family Development, alongside Parliamentary Secretaries George Chow and Dana Lajeunesse.
New Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre Site Visit
At the future New Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries received updates on construction progress and toured clinical mock-ups designed to support modern, patient-centred care at scale. The visit offered a look at how the new hospital will help meet long-term demand by increasing capacity, modernizing care environments, and supporting the specialized services a growing region requires.
Discussions focused on progress to date and preparing for what comes next, including laying the foundation for the campaign ahead. Together, the new hospital and BC Cancer Centre represent a critical step in planning for Surrey’s future and ensuring care keeps pace with the community it serves.
Attendees included Hon. Jagrup Brar, Minister for Mining and Critical Minerals; Hon. Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs; and Parliamentary Secretaries Stephanie Higginson, Darlene Rotchford, Steve Morissette, and Sunita Dhir.
Progress in Focus
Across both visits, discussions centred on progress to date and preparing for the next phase, including laying the groundwork for the campaign ahead. Together, these investments are strengthening capacity, modernizing care delivery, and helping ensure high-quality care for communities south of the Fraser.
