About The New Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre

The New Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre will support Surrey as the community grows, complementing the care provided by Surrey Memorial Hospital, the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre and the existing BC Cancer – Surrey, along with other nearby facilities like Langley Memorial Hospital and Peace Arch Hospital. With a focus on high-growth areas of need like short-stay surgeries, the New Surrey Hospital and Cancer Centre will create capacity for more timely access to those services for patients, while freeing up capacity and resources at regional hospitals like Surrey Memorial to focus on higher-acuity needs.
The New Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre will also create a second Emergency Department in Surrey, increasing regional capacity and channelling approximately 24 per cent of visits away from Surrey Memorial’s Emergency Department, the busiest in B.C.
In its first year of operation, the facility will channel up to 120,000 Emergency Department visits away from other Fraser Health hospitals and add 168 acuity-adaptable beds (including ICU) in the areas of greatest need (medicine and surgery). The hospital will also add capacity for nearly 280,000 additional exams in medical imaging and provide capacity for over 28,000 surgical procedures for an aging population.
