After coming to Canada from Norway in 1952, Agnar and Malena dedicated themselves to family life on their Surrey hobby farm while supporting worthwhile causes in their community. That thoughtful commitment included more than 30 years as supporters of Surrey Memorial Hospital, where many family members were born and where they themselves received medical care until the ages of 93 and 94 respectively.

Malena was an accomplished seamstress, an excellent cook, and a proud homemaker. Agnar, an industrial electrician, is remembered as a true gentleman whose rapport with people and deep-seated wisdom set him apart. He is fondly remembered for his favourite words, “Manners Maketh Man.” Agnar and Malena were healthy and vibrant people throughout their lives. Their home was a reflection of Canada as well as their Norwegian roots.

The couple’s long relationship with Surrey Memorial Hospital continued with their daughter Brenda’s career as a registered nurse at SMH for 36 years.

Agnar and Malena truly appreciated the health care they received over the years. Ultimately, they felt it was important to make a donation upon their passing as a thank you to the Surrey Memorial Hospital. Their gift will positively impact the health of the community for years to come.
