Today we’d like to highlight an amazing partnership with the TELUS Health for Good program that has enabled our Mobile Health Clinic to operate in Surrey and the surrounding community.

One of the services provided by the clinic is dental care to vulnerable and at-risk youth. In the video below, a youth named Keira shares her experiences with the Mobile Health Clinic and how, in the short time of 15 minutes, so much was accomplished for her oral health, and by extension, her overall health and well-being too. The dental hygienist and the program coordinators at the Mobile Health Clinic, powered by TELUS Health for Good, do more than just immediate care. They can also help their clients navigate the health care system, connect them with health care providers, develop treatment plans, and even help them access funding for health care services.

Sandra is a Registered Dental Hygienist that works out of the Mobile Health Clinic. In the video below, she talks about the dental services offered in the travelling clinic and how it allows her to provide dental care for at-risk and vulnerable youth.

While patient care in the clinic can last only a few minutes, it often acts as a stepping stone so that longer term, ongoing health care is accessible in the future.

Alongside the dental services offered in the clinic, because of the flexibility considered in its design, it is also used to provide immunization and sexual health services for vulnerable populations.

In the video below, Program Coordinators Hanshil and Jillian highlight the immunization services offered in the clinic. Hanshil and Jillian assist the registered nurse in providing immunizations to pre-school aged children at 23 different StrongStart BC programs south of the Fraser River. Breaking social barriers, this travelling clinic opens up the door to equitable health care where children can get their vaccines and flu shots, and their guardians can ask any questions they may have.

Everyone has a right to health care, and everyone should have the ability to know their options and access the proper resources. The Mobile Health Clinic, powered by TELUS Health for Good, is just one way to remove obstacles and support equity in our community. In the video below, Hanshil and Jillian reflect on their favourite moments, so far, from working with the traveling clinic:

Since the Mobile Health Clinic launched in 2020, it has already helped more than 800 marginalized youth with their oral health and has helped many others by providing access to immunizations and sexual health care. We send our gratitude to our partners at the TELUS Health for Good program for making the Mobile Health Clinic a reality.
