At Surrey Hospitals Foundation, we are proud to partner with Safe Software, co-founded in Surrey in 1993. Today, the company has grown into one of B.C.’s largest software firms, employing more than 300 people across Canada and serving clients worldwide. Safe’s commitment to giving back to the community it calls home aligns powerfully with our mission.
“At Safe Software, we’re proud to be a global company, but our heart has always been here in Surrey. Partnering with the Surrey Hospitals Foundation is one way we give back to the people and community that shaped us. We believe success isn’t just measured by innovation, it’s measured by the difference we make in people’s lives. Our belief is that local impact and global innovation can, and should, go hand in hand,” – Don Murray, CEO of Safe Software.
Safe remains proudly Surrey-born, demonstrating that business growth and community care are not exclusive. Their support shows how local impact and global innovation can, and should, work together. To date, Safe Software’s cumulative contributions to Surrey Hospitals Foundation have totaled more than $1 million, fueling programs that strengthen care for children, youth and families across the South Fraser region.
Supporting youth and families
Safe Software’s generosity isn’t confined to hospital walls. About 99 per cent of the community initiatives it supports are in British Columbia, reflecting a strong local focus. In Surrey, the company has backed school meal programs, youth sports teams and the overnight Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
This past summer, Safe extended its commitment to youth mental health by sponsoring the community picnic at Champion of the Crescent presented by EllisDon, an annual event that raises funds and awareness for youth mental health.
“We know that 70 per cent of mental health problems begin in childhood or adolescence, that’s why early intervention is so important. Events like Champion of the Crescent help ensure that youth and families get access to timely, compassionate care — and that they know they’re not alone.”
“We know that 70 per cent of mental health problems begin in childhood or adolescence,” said Geneva Healey, director of Fraser Health’s Child and Youth, Young Adult Mental Health and Substance Use programs. “That’s why early intervention is so important. Events like Champion of the Crescent help ensure that youth and families get access to timely, compassionate care — and that they know they’re not alone.”
Through support like this, Safe Software is helping ensure young people and families in Surrey and the South Fraser have access to the mental health resources they need, today and into the future.
Bringing Robotic surgery closer to home
At the 2025 Celebration of Care Gala, Safe Software renewed its multi-year sponsorship of the Safe Ride Home program, helping guests celebrate with peace of mind. Their support also contributed directly to the evening’s Fund-a-Need, which raised funds for the hospital’s robotics program. Thanks to this collective effort, and with Safe and its employees as part of this long-lasting legacy, Surrey Memorial Hospital will welcome the da Vinci Xi surgical system in 2026. Bringing robotic-assisted surgery to Surrey and ensuring patients have access to faster, less invasive care closer to home.
Safe Software strives to make a difference through its philosophy of caring and giving. Their belief in the value of people drives them to give back to the community where they live, work and play. Honouring their commitment to caring for people and the betterment of their community, Safe continues to support the talented teams of health care professionals in Surrey who are providing life-changing care every day.
For employees, this culture creates a sense of pride and purpose. For Surrey Hospitals Foundation, it means having a corporate partner that not only builds global innovation but also invests locally in care that makes a tangible difference.
Partners in better care
Safe Software’s story shows what’s possible when community values guide corporate success. From championing youth mental health to supporting robotics at the 2025 Gala, their actions have had a profound impact on health care south of the Fraser.
Thanks to partners like Safe Software, Surrey Hospitals Foundation can continue ensuring better care, better access and better outcomes for people across the South Fraser region.
